Could Trump Run Again in 2028? Steve Bannon Says “Yes” — Here’s How

The idea of a “Trump 2028” presidency might sound far-fetched — even impossible — but former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon insists it’s not just fantasy. In fact, he claims the possibility is very real.

Despite the 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which bars presidents from serving more than two terms, Bannon says Trump’s team is actively exploring “many different alternatives” to secure a return to the Oval Office.

In a recent interview with NewsNation, Bannon doubled down:

“We have many different alternatives to make sure President Trump is the President of the United States. And we will roll those out over time.”

His comments come as “Trump 2028” merchandise — including hats and shirts stamped with the slogan “Rewrite the Rules” — has started circulating online, raising questions about how far supporters might go to challenge constitutional norms.

Legal experts remain firm: a third term is currently unconstitutional. However, law professor Danny Karon has outlined a few theoretical — and controversial — paths:

  • Trump could run as vice president alongside an ally like JD Vance
  • He could ascend via presidential succession
  • Or he could push for a constitutional amendment

Each of these scenarios, however, faces steep legal and political obstacles.

As for Trump himself? He hasn’t ruled anything out. In a 2024 interview with TIME, he acknowledged that “loopholes” exist, though he added,

“I don’t believe in using loopholes.”

In another interview with NBC, Trump was even more direct:

“A lot of people want me to do it… I wasn’t joking.”

Stay tuned — this story is just beginning.
